Alita: Battle Angel 2 Is Moving Forward, Says Director Robert Rodriguez

It’s been six years since Alita: Battle Angel hit theaters, and while fans have been eagerly waiting for news, there’s finally a reason to celebrate! Director Robert Rodriguez has officially confirmed that a sequel is in development, and it sounds like the story of Alita is far from over.

🗣️ Rodriguez Speaks Out
During a recent interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, Rodriguez stated that he and James Cameron (who co-wrote and produced the original) have plenty of material ready to turn Alita’s journey into at least two more films. The director admitted that Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox initially cast doubt on a sequel. But after seeing other Fox franchises continue under Disney, Rodriguez’s optimism returned.

🔥 Franchise Momentum Building
Rodriguez isn’t alone in wanting to revisit Iron City. Jon Landau, producer of Avatar: The Way of Water, has also shown interest in getting Alita 2 off the ground. Though timelines remain unclear, Landau confirmed talks are ongoing. Meanwhile, Cameron himself has acknowledged working on the project—though details remain tightly under wraps.

🎬 What’s Next for Alita?
While no official release date has been announced, fans should remain cautiously hopeful. If greenlit, production will likely take a few more years, especially considering the visual effects and world-building needed to bring the cyberpunk world of Alita back to life.

For now, we wait—but with momentum finally shifting, Alita: Battle Angel 2 is no longer just a dream.
