Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology and hardware-based ray tracing, marking a major leap in visual performance options for developers.
Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature DLSS and Ray Tracing
During a recent hardware-focused roundtable Q&A, Takuhiro Dohta, Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning & Development Division senior director, explained that the company is leveraging Nvidia’s existing technology stack instead of developing proprietary tools.
This move signals Nintendo’s most significant graphical advancement, maintaining its focus on gameplay innovation while greatly enhancing visual fidelity.

DLSS for 4K Output
The Switch 2 supports 4K output, but developers can choose to:
✔️ Render games at native resolutions
✔️ Use DLSS upscaling to achieve higher resolutions with better performance
This flexibility optimizes game performance across multiple platforms, ensuring a balance between visual quality and frame rates.
Ray Tracing: A Developer-Driven Feature
For the first time, Nintendo is introducing hardware-based ray tracing, allowing for:
🎮 More realistic lighting and reflections
🎮 Enhanced depth and visual immersion
However, Nintendo is leaving full control in the hands of developers, just as with DLSS and 4K rendering. While some games may skip these features, others can take full advantage of them for a more visually stunning experience.
Nintendo Switch 2: Hardware Power and SoC Partnership with Nvidia
Despite these announcements, Nintendo is keeping detailed technical specs under wraps. Tetsuya Sasaki, another Nintendo representative, stated that they cannot disclose full specifications yet.
What we do know:
✅ The Switch 2 will use a custom System-on-Chip (SoC) developed in collaboration with Nvidia
✅ The SoC merges CPU and GPU capabilities, providing substantial generational improvements
