Russia is making its presence known, arming Venezuela with a significant number of missiles while conducting massive nuclear drills back home.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro claims his country is now fortified with over 5,000 Russian-made Igla-S interceptor missiles. These advanced systems are reportedly set up to defend the nation’s airspace. Russian military personnel are also said to be integrated within Venezuela’s key air-defense locations, helping to create a unified defense shield.
President Maduro stated that these interceptors are designed to take down low-flying targets like aircraft and drones. While the speed of these missiles is a point of discussion, their defensive purpose is clear. This move is seen by experts as a major Russian military reinforcement in the region, the most significant since the Cold War.
Putin Flexes Nuclear Muscle
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw large-scale nuclear readiness drills. These exercises were a full-scale test of Russia’s strategic forces.
The drills included the launch of two intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs):
- A Yars ICBM was fired from a site in northwestern Russia.
- A Sineva ICBM was launched from a strategic submarine in the Barents Sea.
These actions signal Russia’s commitment to hardening its defenses and asserting its military power on a global scale
