Japanese retailer GEO has just revealed that its PlayStation 5 rental service, launched earlier this year, has become a surprising hit, with demand outpacing supply in over 400 stores across Japan. 
How the PS5 Rental Works:
GEO’s rental model is simple and affordable:
- 8 days for ¥980 (~$6.62)
- 15 days for ¥1,780 (~$12.02)
At the end of the rental period, players return the console—no strings attached, just pure gaming.

The sudden surge in popularity? It’s all thanks to Monster Hunter Wilds 
—a mega-hit franchise that’s a staple in Japanese gaming culture. Fans who couldn’t afford or find a PS5 flocked to rental stores just to dive into the new release.
While Sony didn’t officially back the program, GEO mentioned they had “deep discussions” with PlayStation before launch, making it a strategically aligned move.
UK Also Embraces PS5 Leasing
A similar rental trend is picking up steam in the UK through companies like Raylo, offering:
