Nintendo began distributing the trial version of `` Princess Peach Showtime! '' on March 7th . The trial version's license notation reveals that it uses the pseudo-physics calculation plug-in "Kawaii Physics," which has been used in many titles in the past. Plug-in developers are also responding.
``Princess Peach Showtime!'' is a new action game featuring Princess Peach as the main character. Princess Peach visits the Kirameki Theater where many plays are being performed, but the theater is taken over by an attack by the Grape Theater Company. There, Princess Peach and the fairy Stella fight to save the theater. In special places on stage, she transforms into costumes that match Peach's stage performance. She changes into a variety of abilities and forms, including swordsman, detective, ninja, pastry chef, and cowgirl.
This work uses the pseudo-physics calculation plug-in ``Kawaii Physics.'' "Kawaii Physics" is a plugin for Unreal Engine 4 and 5. This plug-in was developed to make the physical behavior of so-called "swaying objects" such as hair, skirts, and ribbons "easy" and "cute." Parts that sway with the movement of a game character are difficult to express, and sometimes manual parameter adjustments are required to create natural movements. "Kawaii Physics" helps express these parts.
There are too many examples of this plugin being used, including Shin Megami Tensei V'',
SCARLET NEXUS'', FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER'',
Tower of Fantasy'', and Natsumon! Used in many titles such as
20th Century Summer Vacation'' and Granblue Fantasy Versus -Rising-''. From hair to furry ears, it helped to express
cute things that you want to shake'' naturally and with less man-hours ( related article ).
In "Princess Peach Showtime!", Princess Peach appears in various ways as mentioned above. First of all, even in her usual dress, the fluffy movements of her skirt and hair are important movements to create the atmosphere of Princess Peach. Also, if you check the gameplay footage, you'll notice that the ``shaking thing'' is impressive in other appearances as well.
For example, the hem of the swordsman's clothes, the long scarf of the ninja, and the fluttering cloak of the phantom thief make Peach's costume more gorgeous. A number of cute swings'' have been introduced for other costumes, and it appears that
Kawaii Physics'' is being used to produce these swings efficiently and effectively. It is also interesting that this work uses Unreal Engine.
The Kawaii Physics'' plug-in was developed by Kazuya Okada (Okazu), a domestic developer known as
Okazu''. He joined Epic Games Japan in 2016 after working at Capcom and has been supporting UE users as a support engineer. He announced his retirement at the end of October last year, hinting at the effects of layoffs. While working on the action game Double-Armed Soldato,'' he is also currently disseminating information related to development, including UE, and continues to develop his own plug-ins such as
Kawaii Physics.''
