R.E.P.O. Developers Struggle to Release First Update Amid Massive Success

R.E.P.O., one of this year’s breakout hits on Steam, still hasn’t received its first major update since launching in February — and the developers just explained why. 🧟‍♂️

🚨 The Success of R.E.P.O. Caught Them Off Guard

Back in March, the team at semiwork studio teased what players could expect in the first big update. However, in a recent video, developer Pontus Sundström admitted that creating the patch is taking longer than expected — and it’s all because of how massively popular the game became. 📈

“We want to assure you that we’re working as hard as possible. The update takes longer because R.E.P.O.’s huge success surprised us, and there’s a lot of boring but necessary work happening behind the scenes,” Sundström said.

Due to the unexpected player demand, the team has had to handle an overwhelming amount of administrative tasks to keep the game running smoothly. These necessary but time-consuming tasks have left the developers barely any time to rest — Sundström even joked that they’ve “only slept once” since the game’s release!

🎮 Small Team, Big Challenge

Another reason for the delay is experience. R.E.P.O. is only semiwork studio’s second game, following the lesser-known Voidigo. Plus, the team built R.E.P.O. using a different game engine, meaning they’re still learning the ropes as they go.

“Since we’re working on the first R.E.P.O. update, it naturally takes a little longer because we’re still learning new things — and we want to make sure we’re learning them the right way,” Sundström explained.

Fortunately, the developers promise that once this first update is out, future patches should roll out much faster as they gain more experience.

🎯 What’s Next for R.E.P.O.?

Despite the slow start with updates, the dedication and transparency from semiwork studio are promising signs for R.E.P.O.‘s future. As the team finds its footing, players can expect a more stable and enriched gameplay experience moving forward.

If you’re still enjoying the eerie thrills of R.E.P.O., hang tight — big things are coming!
